Hallac Monastery

Hallac Monastery

Hallaç Monastery, which is the place of worship of Christianity with tuff and rock-carved motifs dating back to the 11th century, is located in Ortahisar Town. It is one of the stops that are visited with interest as it sheds light on historical times in touristic trips.

There are many churches on the Hallaç stream that were used by Christians as hospitals in ancient times. Hallaç Monastery also served as a hospital monastery, established to prepare medicines and treat patients for the people living in the Ortahisar-Ürgüp region. Since this structure serves as both a monastery and a church, there is no other example of it. Hallaç Monastery's access to the regions is also provided through underground tunnels.
